Interdisciplinary teams investigate food issues
While policies surrounding food are diverse, the Food Policy Research Center focuses on issues that are timely, leverage University of Minnesota expertise, and have an impact on human, animal, and environmental health. Each center analysis aims to consider multiple angles when investigating the impact of food policies on the people and systems they touch.
As reflected in the diagram below, the center’s five-step process begins with the combined efforts of the executive and steering committees to identify a pertinent food issue. Then a cross-disciplinary team of researchers collects, integrates, and analyzes the data. Their findings are then used to craft a multi-perspective, science-based document that is disseminated to interested policymakers, industry representatives, and consumers.
